As Nebraska enters this weekend’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette, they have one thing on their mind–just winning the game.
After choking in the final minutes in Blacksburg, Va. against an overrated Virginia Tech team, Nebraska coach Bo Pelini went Tim Tebow on everybody.
After Florida loss to Ole Miss last season by just one point, Tim Tebow broke out what is now called “the promise.”
There isn’t a name for what Pelini did in his weekly Tuesday press conference quite yet, but I will go ahead and name it “The Vow.”
Here it is, hope you enjoy it:
“We’re going to come out on Saturday, and I promise you you’re going to see a group of guys playing with passion. You’re not going to see anybody crying about what happened last week. Our guys are going to come out, and they are going to play their tails off. That’s what’s going to happen. I vow that’s what’s going to happen on Saturday.”
Pelini didn’t use Tebow tears or a red face. He said it sternly, while looking at every last reporter in that conference room. He had the look of a guy that knew his ego took a blow after falling to the Hokies.
Pelini elected to do pooch punts and field goals over taking any major risk against the Hokies, and it backfired on him. Tyrod Taylor, who had been bottled up all game long made the play of his season (once again against Nebraska) by launching an 80-yard bomb down the sideline putting the Hokies just 3 yards away from victory.
They took the long way to scoring the touchdown, but VT officially did put the dagger in Nebraska, something Pelini had ample chances to do the Hokies.
Oh well, if Pelini runs the table and wins out in a very competitive Big 12 Conference, maybe they’ll erect a plaque with “The Vow” outside of Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
Only time will tell.
